Inbound staycation tourism is expected to return to almost the same level as before corona and the popularity of a vacation at home is on the rise. This was announced by the International Holiday Monitor of the Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions(NBTC). Both the recreation sector and the local economy are stimulated by this. After all, income from tourism is growing. The NBTC survey found that 80% of those surveyed from the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom intend to go on vacation this year. A large proportion of the foreign tourists that the Netherlands may receive annually come from one of the countries just mentioned.
The number of Dutch people vacationing in their own country is on the rise in 2023. Last year, compared to 2019, that number increased by 11%. While this year, it is expected to rise further by +2% to 13%. After three corona years, the NBTC also expects foreign tourism to largely return to 2019 levels this year (92%). The survey shows that 6.4 million Germans are expected to stay in the Netherlands this year. This is even an increase of +4% compared to 2019. This increase in tourism in the Netherlands will also be visible at vacation parks. After all, more tourists means higher occupancy.
The Vacation Sentiment Monitor shows that a quarter of those surveyed have already booked a vacation, with most people leaving in Q1 and Q2. In addition, about half of those surveyed have yet to book their vacation. And of these, 56% are already orienting themselves. Jos Vranken, general director of the NBTC: "We see that people are very keen to keep traveling, the intention to go on vacation in 2023 is high." In the Netherlands, people mainly choose a quiet place and accommodation with flexible conditions.
The recreation sector is picking up as before corona and this is of course positive news for the vacation destination Netherlands and the tourism industry. "In 2023, we are moving again towards the recovery of international tourism," Vranken said. Vranken indicated to RTL news that he considers it likely that Dutch people will want to vacation in their own country, given that one is cheaper this way than when traveling abroad. People will consciously choose to deviate from the masses, travel more sustainably, stay longer in the Netherlands and contribute to the local economy.
Foreign tourists are finding the Netherlands again, and the number of Dutch people going on vacation in their own country is increasing. This is obviously very beneficial for the recreation sector. The income from tourism is increasing and the occupancy rate of a vacation home rises along with the growth in tourists. This makes it attractive to invest in and rent out a vacation home in the Netherlands at this very moment. TopParken has a large supply of vacation homes at various vacation parks which are immediately available for sale. This way you also profit from the increasing vacation intention in the Netherlands.
